I'v taken a liking to foreign history much mor than our own especialy if it takes place round BC through the medevil era. However i want to talk bout the Sengoku period in Japan (15th century- 17th). Honestly i first really got into japans history after playing the game Samurai Warriors 2 (which i recommend), but when i found out it was based on true events then i really started doing my research. This was a time of constant war and the rise of many warriors and conquerors (as is most history). I'll giv a brief description bout sum of japans greatest during this time. this is just 2 inform yall in case you ever need it or if your just interested and hopefully we can start a good conversation from this, plus i'm bored
Nobunaga Oda (Demon King)- fierce warlord, nearly conquered all of japan until he was betrayed by one of his most loyal retainers (Mitsuhide Akechi). He either killed himself or burned in the flames of Honoji, there hav been many debates bout his death, its still a mystery.
Hideyoshi (Hashiba) Toyotomi- one of Nobunaga's loyal retainers who quickly made his way to the top. After Oda's death, he took charge and was the first man to conquer all of Japan after defeating the Hojo Clan with a large united army at Odawara Catle. apparently he died of natural causes.
Ieyasu Tokugawa- served the Oda, challenged the Toyotomi after Nobunaga's death, allied the Toyotomi in defeating the Hojo. After Hideyoshi, Ieyasu took charge and defeated all those who were not loyal to him and unified all of Japan. Died of natural causes.
Mitsuhide Akechi- Nobunaga's most loyal retainer. After realizing Nobunaga's cruel ways he took whatever troops he had that were supposed to be reinforcements for one of hideyoshi's campaign and lead them to Honoji where Nobunaga had been staying. After defeating Nobunaga at Honoji he was killed 11 days later by Hideyoshi; it's also said that he was possibly killed by a peasant or he didnt die at all, but started a new life as a priest.
Tadakatsu Honda "The warrior who surpassed death itself"- a fierce general who served under Iyeyasu. In over 55 battles he has never been injured, not a scratch. It was easy to spot him in battle for he wore platinum armor and his helmet had 2 big dear antlers, he's also known for his famous weapon the tonbo-giri. Died of natural causes.
Yukimura Sanada- an excellent warrior who has many times defended the Takeda clan in their time of need. it is also said that Yukimura defeated Tadakatsu Honda in battle. after the fall of the Takeda and later the defeat of Nobunaga, he then served under the Toyotomi and aided them at the siege of Odawara Castle. He was bitter rivals with Ieyasu, so he sided with Mitsunari Ishida commander of the western army against the Tokugawa's eastern army. After the western army was defeated at the battle of Sekigahara, Yukimura still defied Ieyasu and defended any remaining Toyotomi remnants at Osaka Castle during a winter campaign, during the summer campaign the Tokugawa were victorious. After the battle Ieyasu and other soldiers in the area were celebrating for they believed that they were finally rid of Yukimura and the rest of the Toyotomi when suddenly Yukimura stormed in gravly injured. At first the soldiers were to amazed to do anything but eventually they killed Yukimura who went down fighting. Ieyasu declared Yukimura Japans greatest warrior.
Hanzo Hattori "Devil Hanzo"- one of Ieyasu's most loyal retianers. engaged in his first battle at the age of 16 and is well known for his skills as a ninja. he is depicted as a dark character in the game and rivals with another famous ninja Kotaro Fuma. he may hav died of natural causes, however legend has it he was cleverly killed in battle by Kotaro.
Kotaro Fuma- leader of the Fuma ninjas who served under the Hojo. Kotaro attacked the Takeda numerous times and was good at causing chaos. after the fall of the Hojo at Odawara Castle the fuma ninjas reduced to a band of pirates and attacked Tokugawa instillations. Hanzo was sent to put a stop to him, but Kotaro set fire to their ships and once the soldiers jumped out into the water Kotaro had already poured oil out into the channel and watched the soldiers burn along with Hanzo. eventually the Fuma ninjas were caught and executed.
Mitsunari Ishida- a loyal retianer to Hideyoshi. after his death Mitsunari became rivals with Ieyasu and one of Hideyoshi's relatives, Masanori Fukushima. Mitsunari assembeled an army (the Western Army) in aid of the Toyotomi against Ieyasu's Eastern Army. At the famous battle of Sekigahara the two armies clashed. the Western Army had the advantage until Mitsunari was betrayed by the Kobayakawa and the Mori clans. Mitsunari was eventually captured and decapitated under Ieyasu's command.
I'll hav mor info later.
